S.Nihal Singh Gahir, the founder of Gahir Group of industries who was born in remote and small village Cheema of District Sangrur. He started his own career as a labourer in the Saw Mill at Sunam with his farsightedness and extra efforts by not looking back he started his possession towards success.
         In the year 1960 he had his own Saw Mill. After getting success in that saw mill, In 1972, under the guidance of his two elder sons Gurmail Singh and Jasmail Singh all type of agricultural Implements and Tools were made.
         But before that time, the Combine Harvester were imported from other countries which was very expensive and was not in budget for farmers.
         At that time in 1978, farmers needed simple and cheaper Combines. By looking in this matter and for the convenience of the farmers. Gahir Group started creating tractor driven and self propelled Combine Harvester which contributed a lot to the convenience of farmers also in industrial development. It is the possession by the Gahir group toward winning many medals and Gold Medals due to its large production and contribution to the Industrial development. Gahir Group have shown not only the name of town but also the name of the state in India.
         Another success for Gahir Group was construction of factory in Industrial Area-B at Ludhiana manufacturing Wood Working Machines under the name of firm Surjit Mechanical Works.
         Another wide step taken by Gahir Group was installing Paper Mill in a rural and backward area at village (Akalgarh) Sunam. Producing high quality and various type of papers which is supplied all over India. This Industry has given employment to numerous people of the area and wide.
